SASK Haiti Medical & Dental Team

This Saskatchewan based team of 14 members will be traveling to Grand Goave, Haiti to hold a Medical clinic.
This year we have added a dentist who will provide much needed dental care. We also will be taking along some
experienced tradesman who will help with building projects for Haiti ARISE.

We aim to teach the Haitians working along side us so that their skills will in turn serve their own people. We are
grateful to everyone who has donated finances and items of goods to help us fill our many pieces of luggage in
supplying the needs of the clinic.

Through the eyes of a young teen

Well after 4 days we’ve gotten the hang of things. The clinic is running well and like Sharon said before, the Haitians are running it, we’re helping them.

This was dinner tonight! Fresh fish, beans and rice. It couldn’t be more delicious. Although, you have to give credit to the chefs. The wonderful ladies who, quite literally, give up their time to feed us. They get up at 5am to come cook breakfast for us, stay and cook lunch after that, we eat then they cook dinner and leave for home (probably so they can sleep)!
And this…. This is the pharmacy!! With the wonderful Dave, Monique, Leah and Sherlie! Without them it wouldn’t be quite right.  They spend hours counting, sorting and packaging so that the Haitians can have the proper medications they deserve.
You’re wondering what goes on in the clinic? Good thing I can show you! This is basically what happens. We walk around holding babies all day and talking to the interpreters and occasionally make a fool of ourselves trying to speak creole to the people. Well at least that’s what I do!! The others are fixing, diagnosing, telling and teaching the craft of doctor-i-zation!
And these wonderful old ladies ( I’m just kidding Elma, we love you) tell a wonderful story. The very young looking one is Elma who wanted to wash this woman’s feet. This woman was so thankful that as soon as Elma put her feet in the water she started bawling her eyes out and praying because no one had ever been that nice to her. She was so grateful she was practically screaming thank you (at least I think, it was all in creole) so to end your night on a positive note, goodnight!
Tonight’s blog written by Ceiligh.

  2. Thanks for the daily updates. Thinking of you and praying for the team. Elva are still a dental assistant? Maybe a new career...no nights and after your experience it Haiti you won't need any further training.

    Love from your sister Shirley

  3. All of this brings back so many good memories! Ceiligh, I don't know you, but as a mother of 4 teens, I can tell you, you cannot possibly spend your time better than in serving Jesus like you are doing! God is proud of you. I can only imagine how much more you are still going to be doing for Him in your life time. God bless you all!
